ASAE has organized the most definitive research on associations to date, analyzing the massive economic impact generated by associations in the U.S. The results show associations boost America’s economy and generate opportunity in every state through good jobs with competitive pay, events that support local businesses, and substantial tax payments to all levels of governments.

Here are just a few highlights:

• Associations account for 1.1 million jobs and $71.4 billion in wages throughout all 50 states.

• Nearly 52 million participants in association events directly support 342,000 jobs and generate nearly $43 billion in spending in communities across the country.

• Associations contribute $27.4 billion in federal, state, and local taxes – with events generating an additional $7.7 billion in taxes to state and local governments.

Tax-Exempt Organizations Data

To fully understand the scope and breadth of the tax-exempt community, the report below highlights every tax-exempt organization in the United States. Utilizing data reported by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Exempt Organization Business Master File Extract (EO BMF) includes information about tax-exempt classification codes, location and revenue.  On the main page, you are able to filter the data by 501(C) type and organization size by revenue for every state. You can right click on any graph in the data and click “drill through” to get the list of every tax-exempt organization. Although the IRS data is updated monthly, due to fiscal years and filing dates, this data can possibly be up to two years old. We encourage you to use this data as a trending tool to find an association or better understand the impact of the full community.
