The Thanksgiving travel rush is in full swing today, and transportation officials said they expect this will be the busiest holiday season ever.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects to screen 30 million passengers at airport security checkpoints nationwide between Nov. 17 and Nov. 28. Historically, the three busiest travel days are the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday afterward.
“We expect this holiday season to be our busiest ever,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “We are ready for the anticipated volumes and are working closely with our airline and airport partners to make sure we are prepared for this busy holiday travel season.”
Earlier today, weather issues were disrupting Thanksgiving travel at busy airports in the Northeast, with more than 1,000 flights delayed. Overall though, Department of Transportation officials touted this week that flight cancellations are down to 1.3 percent so far in 2023, down from 2.3 percent in 2022.
