The Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition now has more than 500 trade associations, professional societies, businesses, and employers as members to support the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act (S. 722 / H.R. 1477). The coalition, led by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Professional Certification Coalition (PCC), is a diverse and large group advocating for this bipartisan, bicameral legislation.
The Act aims to broaden the scope of qualified expenses under 529 savings plans to include postsecondary training and credentialing, such as licenses and professional certifications. This expansion would provide valuable tax-advantaged resources to individuals, regardless of whether they have a college degree, who are seeking career growth, mid-career transitions, or alternative academic pathways.
By allowing the use of “529” educational savings for training and certifications, the Act seeks to equip more Americans with valuable skills and facilitate their access to in-demand jobs. The Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition believes that this policy change will strengthen industries, professions, and the overall economy by fostering a skilled and competitive workforce.
Opportunities exist for new members to join the coalition as the ranks of organizations supporting this legislation continue to swell.
